Every marketing team that's been around for five or more years has a story about a platform change that broke their measurement setup. This means having explicit documentation of what your tracking setup does and doesn't capture, a regular audit process to check whether tracking is degrading, and decision-making protocols that account for known gaps. If your tracking misses 20% of organic conversions, build that into your channel ROAS calculations rather than pretending it's not happening.

Principle 5: Triangulate, Don't Depend

The most resilient measurement strategies don't depend on any single methodology. They use multiple approaches and look for convergence.

Tracked attribution gives you conversion path data. Self-reported attribution captures awareness channels that tracking misses. Occasional incrementality tests validate whether the observed relationships are causal. Revenue data from your CRM anchors everything to business outcomes.

When three or four methods point in the same direction, you have high confidence. When they diverge, you have a signal that something is off - either in your tracking, your model assumptions, or your channel mix itself. The divergence is information, not noise.

A framework with these principles built in doesn't require rebuilding every time a platform changes something. It requires updating the specific integration with that platform, not the underlying logic.
